The origin of the name Prairie Sky Landscaping
As a youngster growing up in the small town of Grosse Isle, Manitoba there was never any shortage of opportunities for outdoor adventure regardless of the season. It was during those carefree, fun filled “endless summers” that I developed a genuine, deep rooted respect and appreciation for nature; marvelling at the beauty around me and grateful that my senses were attuned to such wonders and delights.
Whether it was time spent exploring the serene, shaded mystery of a woodland path or cycling in the wide open spaces down a gravel road that seemingly vanished on the horizon; these fondly cherished memories had all taken place beneath the splendor of a prairie sky…..at times wild, animated and imposing but more often than not simply breathtaking and unforgettable.
Undoubtedly that same “reverence” for my surroundings at an early age has shaped the manner in which I approach green spaces today and by extension the philosophy I embrace when landscaping; to transform an outdoor space while partnering with nature is both a gratifying and humbling experience.
I have been involved in this industry since 1989, beginning with part time employment with Penndale Nursery and my introduction to the world of plants as well as landscaping. As my interest grew I completed a number of Horticultural related courses from the University of Guelph, including Landscape Design.
In 2002, a career change brought about the creation of Gardens by Ken and the fulfillment of a personal dream to pursue my passion of working with plants. This journey has been both gratifying and personally rewarding on a number of levels; today my company is known as Prairie Sky Landscaping.
